Traffic Courses

This nationally recognised course (approved by Transport and Main Roads QLD) provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to control traffic using a Stop/Slow bat at worksites across Queensland. It includes planning and preparing the work, coordinating traffic, communicating via radio, and cleaning up safely in accordance with WHS legislation and traffic control guidelines.

1 Day | Face-to-Face Training

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Hold a current White Card (General Construction Induction Training)
• Held a provisional or open Australian or foreign driver’s licence in the past 5 years
• Meet TMR Evidence of Identity and medical fitness requirements

Theory: Written and/or verbal assessment covering safety procedures, traffic control rules, and communication protocols.

Practical (including physical requirements): Simulated Stop/Slow bat control activities and radio communication conducted in a controlled environment.
Participants must complete a minimum of 20 hours of practical supervised traffic control tasks on real worksites, recorded in an official logbook. After completion, participants undergo an observation assessment to finalise their practical training.

Note: This course requires standing for extended periods, quick decision-making, use of radios, and outdoor work in variable weather. PPE including long pants, high-vis long-sleeve shirt, steel-cap boots, and hard hat must be worn.

Participants will also be eligible to apply for Traffic Controller Accreditation through TMR QLD.

TMR-accredited Traffic Controllers must renew their accreditation every 3 years.

This Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) approved course is designed for current Queensland Traffic Controllers who need to renew their accreditation every three years. It refreshes traffic control knowledge, workplace safety responsibilities, and practical skills for safely directing traffic using a stop/slow bat.

• Must hold a current Traffic Controller Industry Authority Card (QLD)
• Must provide photographic ID and evidence of industry practice within the past 12 months
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be able to read and write basic English (WHS requirement)
• Must hold a valid General Construction Induction Training (White Card)
• USI (Unique Student Identifier) required

Theory: Written assessment using TMR-approved materials covering updated legislation, WHS requirements, and procedures.

Practical (including physical requirements): Participants must demonstrate safe traffic control techniques in simulated scenarios and submit evidence of recent industry practice.
Note: Participants must provide their Currency of Industry Practice form with proof of traffic control within the last 12 months.

These units meet the requirements for renewal of a QLD Traffic Controller Industry Authority Card issued by TMR.

Traffic Controller accreditation must be renewed every 3 years.

This nationally recognised unit equips participants with the knowledge and skills to interpret and implement traffic management and guidance schemes in live work environments. It meets Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requirements and prepares learners to manage on-site signage setups, coordinate site safety, and maintain traffic flow around roadwork and infrastructure projects.

• 1 Day Theory Training (Face-to-Face)
• Up to 3 Months to Complete Practical Site Setups (Workplace-Based)

• Participants must hold a General Construction Induction (White Card)
• Must be able to read and write basic English
• Photographic ID required on the day
• Mandatory completion of TMR online courses:
  • Working in Proximity to Traffic - Part 1 (Awareness)
  • Working in Proximity to Traffic - Part 2 (Works Protection Methods)
  (Certificates of completion must be provided prior to enrolment)

Theory: Written assessment conducted in class using TMR-approved training materials.

Practical (including physical requirements): Participants must:

• Implement three (3) traffic guidance schemes on real worksites
• Have a qualified supervisor (TMI with 2+ years experience) verify each setup
• Submit documented evidence within 3 months of training

Note: Practical tasks involve lifting signage, walking around active worksites, and working outdoors in varied weather. Enclosed footwear and PPE are mandatory.

Participants will also be issued a Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) card valid for 3 years in Queensland.

TMI cards must be renewed every 3 years. Refresher training will be required in line with updated TMR regulations and workplace safety practices.

This renewal course is designed for individuals who need to renew their Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) accreditation in Queensland. It meets Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) legislative requirements and ensures continued competency in setting up and monitoring traffic guidance schemes on roadwork sites.

1 Day | Face-to-Face Training

• Must hold a current TMI card issued in QLD
• Must have completed TMR’s online modules: Working in Proximity to Traffic – Parts 1 & 2
• Must provide evidence of implementing 3 traffic guidance schemes within the last 12 months (signed by a qualified employer representative)
• Must be able to read and write basic English
• Must present photographic ID and TMI card on the day

Theory: Written assessment covering current traffic management principles and WHS compliance

Practical (including physical requirements): Participants must provide evidence of three (3) traffic guidance scheme implementations on live job sites (within the past 12 months)

• Evidence must be signed off by an employer representative with at least 2 years of TMI experience
• Reasonable physical fitness required to engage with live site setups

• Existing TMI card holders in QLD whose card is due for renewal
• Roadwork and civil construction personnel involved in traffic management setup
• Local council and traffic control company workers responsible for TMP implementation

• Refresher knowledge of interpreting and implementing Traffic Management Plans
• TMR legislative requirements for maintaining TMI accreditation
• Site safety considerations and documentation requirements
• Currency and compliance with updated TMR standards

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

• RIIWHS302E – Implement Traffic Management Plan
• RIIRIS301E – Apply Risk Management Processes (QLD only)

A renewed TMI card valid for 3 years will also be issued by All States Training.

This is a mandatory renewal course for QLD TMI accreditation. TMI cards must be renewed every 3 years to remain valid under Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requirements.

Note: This course does not qualify participants to control traffic using a Stop/Slow bat.
