This 1-day refresher course supports current Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) to maintain and update their WHS knowledge and skills in line with current legislation and best practices. The course reinforces the role of the HSR, including consultation, risk management, and incident response, and provides updates on any legislative or regulatory changes since the initial training.

Effective 29 July 2024, annual refresher training is mandatory for HSRs in Queensland under WHSQ requirements. This course ensures ongoing compliance and strengthens workplace health and safety consultation efforts.

Pre-requisites:

Participants must have previously completed the full 5-day Health and Safety Representative (HSR) training course under WHSQ requirements. Proof of prior training must be provided.

Course Description:

This refresher course provides updated knowledge and practical tools for current elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) to continue effectively fulfilling their role. It revisits key legislation, the powers and functions of an HSR, and supports best practice in workplace health and safety consultation, issue resolution, and risk control.

  • Elected Health and Safety Representatives in QLD
  • HSRs seeking to maintain compliance under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld)
  • Individuals who completed the 5-day HSR course and are due for annual refresher training
What Will I Learn?
  • Key updates to WHS legislation and regulations
  • Refresh on the rights, powers and responsibilities of an HSR
  • Best practice for risk management and workplace inspections
  • How to issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs)
  • Strategies for effective consultation and communication with PCBUs and workers

Assessment:

Theory: Group discussions and knowledge checks during class
Practical (including physical requirements): Engagement in case studies, problem-solving activities, and scenario-based exercises. Participants should be able to sit for extended periods and contribute to discussions.

Refresher Training:
Refresher training for HSRs is mandatory every 12 months in Queensland, effective 29 July 2024. This 1-day course meets that requirement.

This is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.

  1. Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN): Basic English, reading, writing, and numeracy skills are required.
  2. Unique Student Identifier (USI): You must hold a valid USI to enrol.
  3. Identification Requirements: Please bring three forms of identification, with at least one containing a photograph.
  4. Arrival Time: We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time.
