Conduct Wheel Loader Operations

Course Overview
This course is designed to give participants theory and practical training on the operations of a wheeled loader on Australian civil construction, coal, metalliferous and extractive mine or quarry sites. All training is conducted on-site as the practical operations must be carried out in a live environment and should include side casting and loading stations and apply site safety principles and procedures.

The candidate must provide us access to the machine to conduct the training and the machine must in be sound condition and comply with manufacturer guidelines and specifications. 

Candidates will learn how to operate a typical wheeled loader and how to conduct safety procedures concerning wheeled loader operations. The objective of each training course is to equip participants with a sound overview and practical experience of how work should be carried out on site.

What Will I Learn

In this course, you will learn:

  • Planning and preparing;
  • Conducting machine pre-operational checks;
  • Operation of front end loaders including mixing materials,
  • Stripping/spreading topsoil and materials, loading, cutting/boxing, backfilling;
  • Attaching, securing, lifting, carrying and placing materials;
  • Selecting, removing and fitting attachments;
  • Relocating the front end loader;
  • Carrying out machine operator maintenance and cleaning up.  

The duration will vary depending on your background and experience. There is a logbook that must be completed with on-the-job training, they have 7 tasks listed in the front of the logbook that must be completed a certain number of times each, the amount of times will vary depending on your level of experience. Assessment cannot be conducted until these tasks have been completed and the assessment may take from 4 to 8 hours to complete.

Course Pre-requisites

To learn this course, you will need to:

  • Have a current white card
  • Have a good understanding of the English language
  • Arrive 15 minutes early to your training session
  • Have access to the machine on a live work site
