Course Overview
This nationally accredited course covers theoretical and practical aspects of working at height. During the course we will assist you to develop your work method statements and risk assessments for working at height.

All workers who conduct or supervise tasks whilst at height will find this course beneficial to workplace safety. This course will enable you to comply with current Occupational Health and Safety legislation with successful trainees receiving a nationally recognised statement of attainment.

Course Details

Work at heights training is focused on fall prevention rather than fall arrest. It is designed to equip workers with the knowledge and skills to safely work in any height situation, primarily being aimed at general construction, maintenance, mining, large factories or other work situations where work is conducted more than two meters from the ground.

We recognise that whilst there is a standard set of learning outcomes for this course, the context and environment in which the learning is applied is varied. We will always customise the course to suit your unique workplace requirements.

Training covers risk assessment, selection and correct use of equipment, installation of anchors, fall restraint, work positioning and fall arrest systems.

During the theory and practical components of the course, participants will be assessed on their knowledge and ability to perform the necessary tasks.

What Will I Learn

This course covers the following topics:

  • Regulations and legislation;
  • Australian Standards;
  • Hazard elimination;
  • Equipment selection and use;
  • Anchor systems;
  • Installing solid and reliable anchorages;
  • Fall restraint systems;
  • Selection of equipment and correct use;
  • Work positioning systems;
  • Fall arrest systems, avoidance;
  • Using energy absorbing lanyards;
  • Rope management and house keeping;
  • Emergency plans;
  • Fallen worker retrieval skills, hands on training.

Course Delivery

1 day (allow approx. 8 hours) face-to-face.

Course Inclusions

This course is includes:

  • Knowledge on relevant legislation and Australian Standards for working at height;
  • Recommendations and advice for specialised personal protective equipment and for your particular workplace;
  • Course learning materials;
  • Advice on risk control methods for the type of work at height to be undertaken.

Suitable For

The course is suitable for persons who are required to work in areas where there may be a risk of falling and those who may be required to act as standby personnel and manage or supervise persons required to work at heights.

Participants completing this course will understand the legislative requirements detailed in the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and relevant Australian Standards, Codes of Practice and the operation and maintenance of associated safety equipment.
