Course Description:

This nationally recognised unit is designed for individuals who may need to provide a first aid response in remote or isolated situations, where medical help may be delayed. It includes extended patient care, communication with emergency services, managing environmental risks, and improvisation when resources are limited.

What Will I Learn?
  • Managing casualties for extended periods until help arrives
  • Performing CPR and using an AED
  • Responding to fractures, bleeding, shock, burns, bites, and stings
  • Improvising with limited supplies and equipment
  • Communicating clearly with emergency services in remote locations
  • Managing environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and terrain

Assessment:

Theory: Written or verbal assessment on first aid procedures, priorities, and emergency communication

Practical (including physical requirements): Participants will demonstrate extended first aid care and emergency response scenarios in outdoor or simulated remote conditions.

Note: Practical tasks involve kneeling, bending, lifting, prolonged casualty care, and exposure to outdoor environments. A moderate level of physical fitness is required.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

  • HLTAID013 – Provide First Aid in a Remote or Isolated Site

Refresher Training:

Refresh every 3 years, or in line with workplace or site requirements

This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.

Important Information for Participants:

  1. Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN): Basic English, reading, writing, and numeracy skills are required.
  2. Unique Student Identifier (USI): You must hold a valid USI to enrol.
  3. Identification Requirements: Please bring three forms of identification, with at least one containing a photograph.
  4. Arrival Time: We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time.
