Course Description:

This nationally recognised unit covers the skills and knowledge required to work safely near live electrical apparatus, including overhead and underground assets. It is intended for non-electrical workers (e.g. plant operators, riggers, doggers, and tradespeople) who may be required to operate or work in proximity to electrical infrastructure.

Training includes hazard identification, risk control measures, exclusion zones, and correct communication with electrical asset controllers.

  • Machinery operators (e.g. excavator, crane, or EWP)
  • Civil construction or maintenance workers
  • Tree workers, landscapers, or riggers
  • Utility contractors or groundworkers
  • Anyone working near electrical assets but not performing electrical tasks
What Will I Learn?
  • Legal obligations and WHS responsibilities
  • Identifying and assessing electrical hazards
  • Understanding exclusion zones and safe approach distances
  • Working safely around poles, wires, and substations
  • Using safety observers and spotters
  • Emergency response procedures

Assessment:

Theory: Written or verbal assessment covering electrical safety legislation, hazard identification, and safe work methods

Practical (including physical requirements): Participants will demonstrate safe work practices in a simulated or real work environment near electrical infrastructure.

Note: Participants must have the physical ability to operate safely in an outdoor environment, follow instructions, use PPE, and perform simulated hazard response tasks.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

Refresher Training:

Refresher training is typically recommended every 2 years or as required by your employer, principal contractor, or local electricity network provider.

This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.
