Course Overview

Traffic Management equips participants with the skills and knowledge to interpret, implement, and monitor traffic guidance schemes on active roadwork sites in Queensland. This course is required for those responsible for setting up traffic signage and ensuring road user and worker safety. It includes classroom theory, plus workplace-based practical assessments, and meets all QLD Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requirements.

Length/Delivery:
  • 1 Day Theory Training (Face-to-Face)
  • Up to 3 Months to Complete Practical Site Setups (Workplace-Based)

Pre-requisites:
  • Participants must hold a General Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Must be able to read and write basic English
  • Photographic ID required on the day
  • Mandatory completion of TMR online courses:
    • Working in Proximity to Traffic - Part 1 (Awareness)
    • Working in Proximity to Traffic - Part 2 (Works Protection Methods)
      (Certificates of completion must be provided prior to enrolment)
            Course Description:

            This nationally recognised unit equips participants with the knowledge and skills to interpret and implement traffic management and guidance schemes in live work environments. It meets Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requirements and prepares learners to manage on-site signage setups, coordinate site safety, and maintain traffic flow around roadwork and infrastructure projects.

            What Will I Learn?
            • Interpret traffic guidance schemes (TGS)
            • Set out and secure worksites safely
            • Monitor and modify traffic plans as needed
            • Remove signage and clean up site safely
            • Communicate effectively with team members
            • Apply basic risk management processes

            Assessment:

            Theory: Written assessment conducted in class using TMR-approved training materials.

            Practical (including physical requirements): Participants must:

            • Implement three (3) traffic guidance schemes on real worksites
            • Have a qualified supervisor (TMI with 2+ years experience) verify each setup
            • Submit documented evidence within 3 months of training

            Note: Practical tasks involve lifting signage, walking around active worksites, and working outdoors in varied weather. Enclosed footwear and PPE are mandatory.

            Course Outcomes:

            Upon successful completion, participants will receive Statements of Attainment for:

            • RIIWHS302E – Implement Traffic Management Plan
            • RIIRIS301E – Apply Risk Management Processes (QLD only)

            Participants will also be issued a Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) card valid for 3 years in Queensland.



            Refresher Training:

            TMI cards must be renewed every 3 years. Refresher training will be required in line with updated TMR regulations and workplace safety practices.

            This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.

            Important Information for Participants:

            1. Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN): Basic English, reading, writing, and numeracy skills are required.
            2. Unique Student Identifier (USI): You must hold a valid USI to enrol.
            3. Identification Requirements: Please bring three forms of identification, with at least one containing a photograph.
            4. Arrival Time: We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time.
