Course Description:

This nationally recognised skill set equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to supervise food safety within hospitality and retail food environments. It includes the two required units — SITXFSA005 Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety and SITXFSA006 Participate in Safe Food Handling Practices — to become a recognised Food Safety Supervisor, as mandated in Queensland and most other Australian states. The course focuses on monitoring safe food practices, supervising staff, and responding to food safety hazards in accordance with current legislation.

  • Childcare and aged care food service staff
  • Anyone required to act as a designated Food Safety Supervisor under state food legislation
What Will I Learn?
  • How to identify food safety hazards and prevent contamination
  • Legal responsibilities and compliance with the Food Act
  • Monitoring staff and workplace food handling practices
  • Responding to unsafe food handling and hygiene breaches
  • Maintaining food safety documentation and records

Assessment:

Theory: Written and/or verbal questions covering food safety supervision, legal requirements, and hazard control

Practical (including physical requirements): Participants must demonstrate the ability to supervise food handling practices and apply safe food control procedures in a simulated setting.

Note: Tasks may involve reading documentation, monitoring simulated staff, and responding to realistic food safety incidents.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will receive Statements of Attainment for:

  • SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety
  • SITXFSA006 – Participate in Safe Food Handling Practices

Refresher Training:

In Queensland, Food Safety Supervisor certificates must be refreshed every 5 years to remain valid under the Food Act 2006.

This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.

  1. Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN): Basic English, reading, writing, and numeracy skills are required.
  2. Unique Student Identifier (USI): You must hold a valid USI to enrol.
  3. Identification Requirements: Please bring three forms of identification, with at least one containing a photograph.
  4. Arrival Time: We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time.
