Course Description:

This unit provides the skills and knowledge required to responsibly provide gambling services, in accordance with relevant state legislation. It covers how to identify problem gambling behaviour, provide assistance and referrals, and comply with legal and venue-specific policies and procedures. This training is mandatory for staff working in gambling environments in Queensland.

  • Hospitality staff in venues offering Keno, TAB, or similar services
  • Anyone seeking employment in venues with gambling facilities
What Will I Learn?
  • Understanding gambling legislation and your responsibilities
  • Recognising signs of problem gambling
  • Applying venue harm minimisation strategies
  • Interacting with patrons in a supportive and respectful manner
  • Following venue procedures for exclusion and self-exclusion

Assessment:

Theory: Written multiple-choice and short-answer questions based on legislation, responsible gambling strategies, and case scenarios
Practical: Verbal demonstration or role play of how to approach and support a patron with gambling concerns

Note: Students must have sufficient literacy, listening, and communication skills to participate in assessments.


Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:
SITHGAM022 – Provide Responsible Gambling Services

This unit is a requirement for staff working in Queensland venues offering gambling services.


Refresher Training:

Refresher training is recommended every 3 years or in line with venue policies and legislative updates.

This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.

Important Information for Participants:

  1. Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN): Basic English, reading, writing, and numeracy skills are required.
  2. Unique Student Identifier (USI): You must hold a valid USI to enrol.
  3. Identification Requirements: Please bring three forms of identification, with at least one containing a photograph.
  4. Arrival Time: We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time.
