This unit provides the skills and knowledge required to responsibly serve alcohol in licensed venues, in line with the requirements of the Liquor Act. It focuses on harm minimisation, legal responsibilities, identifying intoxication, and dealing with minors. This is the nationally recognised RSA course accepted in Queensland and most other Australian states.

Ideal for:

• Bar and hospitality staff
• Restaurant and catering workers
• Security or event staff at licensed venues
• Bottle shop and retail liquor staff
• Venue supervisors or licensees
• Anyone seeking employment in licensed hospitality settings

• Legal requirements and individual responsibilities under liquor legislation
• Identifying standard drinks and signs of intoxication
• Strategies for refusing service appropriately
• Managing underage service and working with minors
• Understanding harm minimisation strategies
• Consequences of non-compliance for individuals and venues

Theory: Written multiple-choice and/or short-answer questions on RSA laws and procedures
Practical: Demonstration of responsible service scenarios, including verbal refusal of service

Note: Students must have sufficient English literacy and verbal communication skills.

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:
SITHFAB021 – Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol

This unit is a mandatory requirement for employment in licensed venues across Queensland and most of Australia.

Refresher training is recommended every 3 years, or earlier if required by your employer or changes in liquor licensing laws.
