Course Description:

This nationally recognised unit provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills to respond to and confine small emergency incidents in the workplace, such as fires, chemical spills, or other minor hazards. It focuses on using available equipment to prevent escalation, ensuring personal safety, and raising appropriate alarms in accordance with facility procedures.

What Will I Learn?
  • Identifying and assessing small emergency situations
  • Raising alarms and notifying emergency services
  • Confident use of fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and spill kits
  • Understanding facility emergency response plans
  • Personal safety and hazard awareness

Assessment:

Theory: Written and/or verbal questions to assess understanding of emergency response protocols and equipment use

Practical (including physical requirements): Students will demonstrate safe and effective use of first attack firefighting equipment and appropriate emergency response actions in simulated emergency scenarios.

Note: Physical tasks involve kneeling, lifting equipment, and using extinguishers under instruction.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

Refresher Training:

It is recommended that refresher training be completed every 1–2 years or as required by workplace policy or changes in emergency procedures.

This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.

  1. Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN): Basic English, reading, writing, and numeracy skills are required.
  2. Unique Student Identifier (USI): You must hold a valid USI to enrol.
  3. Identification Requirements: Please bring three forms of identification, with at least one containing a photograph.
  4. Arrival Time: We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time.
