Course Description:

This combined course provides the skills and knowledge required to maintain chainsaws in working condition and safely trim and cut previously felled trees. It includes sharpening, tensioning, cleaning, and replacing parts, as well as identifying hazards, planning cuts, and managing risks in post-felling environments.

What Will I Learn?
  • Chainsaw maintenance procedures: cleaning, sharpening, replacing parts

  • Risk management and safe zone planning
  • PPE use and emergency procedures

Theory:
Written and/or verbal assessment on chainsaw safety, maintenance steps, and trimming techniques

Practical (including physical requirements):
Participants will demonstrate chainsaw maintenance and trimming of felled trees using safe and effective techniques.

Note: This course involves physical tasks such as operating and lifting chainsaws, kneeling, working in uneven terrain, and wearing full PPE. A moderate to high level of physical fitness and upper body strength is required.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

  • FWPCOT2254 – Maintain Chainsaws
  • FWPCOT2273 – Trim and Cut Felled Trees

Refresher Training:

Refresher training is recommended every 2–3 years or when changes occur to equipment, safety standards, or work procedures.

This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.
