Course Description:

This unit provides the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a side-by-side utility vehicle (SSV) in a range of work environments. The course covers pre-start checks, safe driving techniques, operating over different terrains, and completing post-operational maintenance in line with workplace procedures and manufacturer guidelines.

  • Farm, station, and property workers
  • Horticulture and landcare staff
  • Council or parks and gardens workers
  • Anyone required to operate an SSV (e.g. Polaris, Kubota, Can-Am) for work
What Will I Learn?
  • Pre-start safety checks and inspections
  • Safe operation over various terrain
  • Loading and securing equipment
  • Operating within legal and safety limits
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Cleaning, refuelling, and shutting down safely

Assessment:

Theory: Written knowledge assessment
Practical: Participants will demonstrate safe vehicle operation across various terrains, including pre-start checks, driving, and shutdown.

Note: This course requires physical coordination, mounting and dismounting vehicles, balance control, and wearing PPE such as helmets. Basic physical fitness is required.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

Refresher Training:

Refresher training is recommended every 2–3 years or when there are changes to workplace procedures, equipment, or regulations.

This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.

  1. Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN): Basic English, reading, writing, and numeracy skills are required.
  2. Unique Student Identifier (USI): You must hold a valid USI to enrol.
  3. Identification Requirements: Please bring three forms of identification, with at least one containing a photograph.
  4. Arrival Time: We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time.
