Course Overview
This unit provides the essential skills and knowledge required to safely operate and maintain hand-held chainsaws for a range of basic cutting tasks. Participants will learn how to inspect, start, use, clean, and store a chainsaw in accordance with workplace procedures, manufacturer guidelines, and safety requirements.

The course is suitable for those working or volunteering in agriculture, land management, parks and gardens, rural fire services, or other outdoor industries where chainsaw use is required

Course Description:

This nationally recognised unit provides the skills and knowledge required to safely operate and maintain hand-held chainsaws for basic cutting tasks. It covers the preparation, operation, and routine servicing of chainsaws in accordance with safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines.

This training is suitable for a range of industries including agriculture, forestry, landscaping, local government, and emergency services.

Assessment:

Theory: Written knowledge assessment

Practical Assessment:
Participants will be assessed through hands-on tree felling and chainsaw operation tasks in a controlled outdoor setting.

Note: This course involves physical tasks such as lifting and operating a chainsaw, standing for extended periods, working on uneven terrain, and wearing full PPE. A moderate to high level of physical fitness is required.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

Refresher Training:

Refresher training is recommended every 2–3 years or when there are changes to chainsaw models, safety requirements, or job roles.

This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.
