A forklift licence is one of the most versatile skills you can have, and it’s one of the most vital. Workplace Health and Safety have a zero-tolerance policy on unsafe or illegal use of forklifts, so it’s important that you and your workers qualifications are up to scratch! We offer a flexible face-to-face training program that covers everything from the actual operation of the forklift itself, to hazard identification, risk assessment and emergency procedures, as well as pre and post-operational checks, and the fitting and removal of any forklift attachments. With a focus on safety and efficiency, we’ll have you qualified in no time!
The short answer is "yes" - it is necessary to hold a licence to operate a forklift. However, if you are "in training" you are permitted to operate a forklift without a licence until such time as you are competent enough to be assessed. You must be within sight and sound of a licensed operator at all times. It is not sufficient that there is a licensed operator SOMEWHERE on the premises. If someone is "in training", then they should be undergoing training - it is not acceptable for a person to be "in training" indefinitely.
Workplace Health & Safety has instituted a 'zero tolerance' policy on the unsafe or illegal use of forklift trucks, dramatically increasing the risk of prosecution for those who cause or tolerate non-compliance with health and safety laws. This means that any immediate risk or other non-compliance with OHS law associated with the use of forklifts detected by a Workplace Health & Safety inspector is expected to be rectified not only in relation to the particular incident but to prevent similar incidents occurring in the future.
Before conducting any activities with the forklift such as lifting and shifting loads. In general, a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must ensure that people engaged in shifting loads with a forklift has received sufficient training, instruction and information to correctly follow the specific procedures without exercising judgement.
