RIIRTM203D - Work as a Safety Observer/Spotter


Course Overview

This course has been designed for persons involved in road building, road maintenance, Bitumen sheeting, or Civil construction earthworks, mining, quarrying. Including those who may work, supervise, or manage those who may be required to work in the vicinity of Road works.

It aims to provide participants with the underpinning knowledge to be able to recognize and ensure the requirements of a safe work environment in relation to or near road maintenance, Bitumen sheeting, or Civil construction earthworks.

"Safety Observer/Spotter" means a person who has enough safety knowledge and experience to ensure that pedestrians, workers, vehicles & machinery are kept a safe distance from the road building machinery.

This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to work safely as a safety observer/spotter in the Civil construction industry.

This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.

To enable participants to clearly understand the role of the Observer as the safety observer to warn mobile plant operators and crane drivers in the proximity of road Works & civil construction work inclusive of communications, water, sewerage and power.



Participants who satisfactorily complete the course will receive a Observer/Spotter card and Statement of Attainment (valid for three (3) years).
