RIIRTM203D Work as a Safety Observer/Spotter

This course has been designed for persons involved in road building, road maintenance, Bitumen sheeting, or Civil construction earthworks, mining, quarrying. Including those who may work, supervise, or manage those who may be required to work in the vicinity of Road works.

It aims to provide participants with the underpinning knowledge to be able to recognize and ensure the requirements of a safe work environment in relation to or near road maintenance, Bitumen sheeting, or Civil construction earthworks.

"Safety Observer/Spotter" means a person who has enough safety knowledge and experience to ensure that pedestrians, workers, vehicles & machinery are kept a safe distance from the road building machinery.

 

Objective

 

To enable participants to clearly understand the role of the Observer as the safety observer to warn mobile plant operators and crane drivers in the proximity of road Works & civil construction work inclusive of communications, water, sewerage and power.

Outcome

Participants who satisfactorily complete the multiple choice questionnaire will be given practical demonstration and hands on practice on a live civil works site to ensure that they prove their competence as an Road Works Observer. This participant will receive a Observer/Spotter card and Statement of Attainment(valid for three (3) years) and be registered on the All States Training Database.
