Course Description:

This nationally recognised unit equips individuals with the skills and knowledge required to identify and safely use portable fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, and fire blankets in the workplace. The course is designed to build confidence in responding to incipient-stage fires using the correct firefighting equipment, in accordance with workplace emergency procedures and WHS requirements.

What Will I Learn?
  • Different types of fire extinguishers and their uses
  • How to identify the class of fire and select the correct equipment
  • Safe and effective use of fire extinguishers, hose reels, and blankets
  • Fire triangle theory and fire behaviour basics
  • Workplace emergency procedures and evacuation protocols

Assessment:

Theory: Multiple-choice and/or short answer questions covering fire safety knowledge and equipment usage

Practical (including physical requirements): Participants must demonstrate the safe use of a portable fire extinguisher, fire blanket, and hose reel during simulated fire scenarios.

Note: Participants will need to bend, lift, and apply pressure to extinguishers. Enclosed footwear and basic physical ability are required.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

Refresher Training:

Refresher training is recommended every 2 years, or as required by your workplace emergency response plan or WHS procedures.

This Nationally Recognised Training course is delivered face-to-face by qualified and experienced trainers, ensuring a high standard of practical instruction.

  1. Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN): Basic English, reading, writing, and numeracy skills are required.
  2. Unique Student Identifier (USI): You must hold a valid USI to enrol.
  3. Identification Requirements: Please bring three forms of identification, with at least one containing a photograph.
  4. Arrival Time: We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time.
