RIIMPO316E - Conduct self-propelled compactor operations

Please note, all machines are to be supplied by the client. If you are unable to access a machine, we are able to hire one for a further cost.

Course Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate a self-propelled compactor to perform perform spreading, levelling and compacting operations.

This unit applies to those working in site -based roles.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors, and must be sourced from state jurisdictions prior to applying this unit.

This unit alone does not provide sufficient skill to independently load and unload equipment. To perform this activity safely, personnel must either complete or be assisted by someone who has completed RIIHAN308F Load and Unload Plant or equivalent.

Self-Propelled Compactor Operations covers compactor operations in the civil construction industry. It includes: planning and preparing; conducting machine pre-operational checks; operation including compacting materials to pattern and density, relocating the machine; and carrying out operator maintenance and clean up.


Course Duration

The duration will vary depending on your background and experience. There is a logbook that must be completed with on-the-job training, they have 7 tasks listed in the front of the logbook that must be completed a certain number of times each, the amount of times will vary depending on your level of experience. Assessment cannot be conducted until these tasks have been completed and the assessment may take from 4 to 8 hours to complete.

Licensing Regulation

Load shifting (other than Forklift) equipment no longer are required to have a licence however an operator must still be deemed competent. Statement of Attainment received from completing this course is suitable.
